Spanish Syntax (SPA 418): Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:30pm-2:45pm, LL 241
Description: SPA 418 focuses on the in-depth study of the processes and mechanisms that govern the internal structure of phrases and sentences in the Spanish language. Nevertheless, since one of the main objectives of this course is to develop the ability to work within a formal linguistic framework, students registered in this course will acquire the necessary knowledge and analytical tools to analyze the syntactic structure of any known human language.

Spanish Phonetics and Phonology (SPA 417)
Description: SPA 417 offers an in-depth analysis of the Spanish sound system and introduces some of the basic concepts generally employed in the phonological analysis of human speech. Throughout the course, students will be introduced to the articulatory and acoustic properties of the sounds of Spanish. In addition, students will examine the phonotactics of Spanish as well as the most important phonological processes that affect the phonemic inventory of the language. The course also includes a brief overview of the historical development of the Spanish phonological system and its current regional varieties.

Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics (SPA 400)
Description: SPA 400 is an introductory course to the scientific study of human language. Throughout the course, students will become familiar with the different methods of linguistic analysis most commonly employed in the discipline and their application to the study of the Spanish linguistic system, including phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, pragmatics, diachronic and diatopic variation, and language change.
